Founder’s Story – The Journey of Momowala

The Entrepreneurial Journey: Resilience Through Setbacks
”Failure is not the opposite of success; it is a part of success.”
After becoming a software engineer, I always wanted to become an entrepreneur. Since the age of 22, I started my business journey in Delhi and opened an e-publishing vendor company. After running it for 2.5 years, I wasn’t able to make it big, and due to certain circumstances, we closed it in 2017.
In 2018, I came back to my hometown in Jharkhand, Hazaribagh, to start my second business venture, which was related to home maintenance services using technology as a mobile app. Working for three years in this venture, I learned a lot about startups, brand, marketing, fundraising, pitching, etc.
In 2021, post-COVID, we shut down this venture due to a lack of funds and many other factors. Later in 2021, I started my food business journey with a franchise food brand of momo and fast food.
Due to my previous setbacks, I felt stressed to run this food café into a profitable business. With the help of my friends and family, I invested around 12 lakhs in this food brand.
The first six months were a loss, and there was no support from the franchisor brand related to staff, operations, or marketing. Fed up with their negligible response, I decided to change that food brand into my own. Since I didn’t have a single rupee to invest again, I opted to have a partner so I could use his investment to transform my food franchise café into my own new outlet, known as RRR Restaurant.
I changed the whole menu and concept based on the local footfall. We started to offer cheaper thali meals in many varieties, and it worked.
I also started a momo stall in front of my market complex, and it also became profitable in a short period. Everything was going well, and in July 2023, I was thinking of making it bigger. I discussed this idea with my partner; he also liked my idea. I started working on it, and after three months, I launched my first prototype of my food brand, “MomoWala,” in Ranchi.
MomoWala’s inception was the result of hunger, sleepless nights, stress, and resilience.
”My vision was to make it the world’s most affordable and convenient brand for all people out there who want to do something of their own.”
In early January 2024, my partner ditched and cheated me in the RRR Restaurant business.
I separated myself from that business and again started from zero in my hometown, Hazaribagh, with the help of my few beloved ones.

I started with one basic momo stall on January 15, 2024, and expanded it to five food stalls by February 2024.
Rohit joined me in MomoWala as an Operations Head, and we were hustling to make it a smoother and expandable model.
In May 2024, I got a chance to visit Neem Karoli Baba Ashram with my wife, and I literally got very positive energy there.
Returning from there, I got an opportunity to pitch in an event named “Srijan Startup Conclave 2024,” organized in Ranchi. I won first prize there and also received a funding commitment from the panelists.
I was pretty sure now that I was working on a real problem.
And now, after 1.5 years, we have 40+ outlets in five states, including stalls, QSRs, and cafés.
After having multiple failures, one thing I gained was resilience, and it must be in every entrepreneur.
”There is no shortcut to success; you have to try, try again, try better, try more, and you will be there.”

Rohit Kumar Barnwal

Co-Founder & Operational Head Journey – THE BACKBONE OF MOMOWALA OPERATIONS

The story of Momowala is incomplete without mentioning Rohit Barnwal, the man who turned an idea into a working model on the ground. Rohit completed his BCA degree, but his real passion was always food and creating something meaningful for people. Rohit has 4 years of hands-on experience in the food and beverage industry, understanding everything from kitchen operations to vendor negotiations and customer handling.

When he met Kunal, Momowala was still in its struggling phase. The concept was powerful, but the execution needed a strong pillar. Rohit stepped in as the Ground Operational Head, and from that moment, he became the driving force behind turning the brand’s vision into reality. He personally worked on stall setup processes, staff training modules, raw material planning, vendor alignment, and day-to-day workflow systems—everything required to make sure a stall could run smoothly even without Kunal standing there.

In the early days, there were failures, setbacks, and sleepless nights. But Rohit never stepped back. He was the first to reach the stall location in the morning and the last to leave after closing. When support systems collapsed, he built new ones. When manpower was missing, he worked himself. He ensured that what happened to Kunal in his earlier franchise experience would never happen to any Momowala partner.

Together, Kunal and Rohit transformed a single stall into a fast-growing chain of 35+ stalls across 5 states, all running on structured systems that Rohit built from scratch. Today, he continues to lead operations, training franchise owners, monitoring daily performance, designing SOPs, and ensuring that the taste, hygiene, and service remain uniform across every Momowala outlet.

His mission is clear—to make Momowala the most trusted momo franchise in India by building systems that empower common people to run profitable businesses.

For Rohit, this is not just a job.

This is a revolution.
A family-building movement.
No FOMO. Only MOMO.

Rounak Raj Barnwal

CO-Founder,Logistic & Supply Head JOURNEY – THE FORCE BEHIND MOMOWALA SUPPLY & LOGISTICS

Every successful food brand runs on two things—great taste and a strong supply chain. For Momowala, that backbone is Rounak Raj, our Head of Supply & Distribution Operations, the man who makes sure every stall receives the right materials, at the right time, without compromise.

Rounak completed his B.Com graduation from St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi in 2023, but even during his college years, he was deeply involved in food business operations. With 2 years of experience in the food industry, he developed a sharp understanding of procurement, cost management, vendor handling, and ground-level logistics—skills many people take years to master.

When he joined Momowala, the brand was expanding rapidly—new stalls were opening in new cities, and the biggest challenge was supply consistency. One small delay could affect sales, quality, and customer trust. Rounak took charge and built a supply chain system that ensured every Momowala stall, in every district, gets fresh raw materials, packaging, and operational stock without failure.

From negotiating with vendors to tracking daily dispatches, from building inventory buffer plans to creating cost-efficient routing—he built the entire backend structure that made expansion possible. When a stall owner needs urgent stock, Rounak is the first person they call, and he always delivers—literally and operationally.

In the early months, there were challenges—unreliable suppliers, last-minute shortages, transportation delays—but Rounak never stepped back. He travelled himself, verified suppliers physically, coordinated late-night deliveries, and built a network that today supports 50+ stalls across 5 states.

His mission is simple but powerful—
“No stall should ever stop selling because of supply failure.”

Today, Rounak manages procurement, warehouse coordination, dispatch teams, quality checks, and stall-level material forecasting—ensuring uniform taste, standard packaging, and seamless operations across all outlets.

For Rounak, this is more than logistics—
It’s the heartbeat of Momowala’s growth.
No FOMO. Only MOMO.
